OFFERTA
Offerta is a typeface born from the observation of vernacular urban typography: that is, the hand-drawn signs found in neighborhood markets in Milan, used to communicate products, prices, and special offers in a context teeming with visual stimuli.
These inscriptions are often spontaneous and naive, yet they form part of the visual grammar of a city’s social and commercial context.
Offerta Typeface is a display font that reinterprets and exaggerates these styles, emphasizing the strokes of handwritten gestures and transforming a more functional marker-pen script into a deliberate typographic system.
On the one hand, the project retains the function of attracting attention and conveying information immediately; on the other, it challenges the conventions of commercial typography due to its limited legibility.
The research draws on the diverse elements of market-style writing—such as decorations and irregularities—and the result is a complete alphabet with uppercase and lowercase letters, designed to play with retail contexts.
In fact, the typeface retains its popular and vernacular character, but this is reinterpreted in the project as a playful, illustrated visual identity presented entirely in three colors, yellow, cyano and black, hich wecho the codes of high-contrast, high-visibility communication, thereby amplifying the original function of the lettering. Set within an entire illustrated universe, the typeface functions as an autonomous visual element that straddles the line between illustration and information.
